Quiero verte una vez más (1939)

I Want to See You One More Time
lyrics by José María Contursi
music by Mario Canaro

Evening that invites me to converse
with my memories,
Pain of waiting for you and of weeping
in this prison cell…
In my bitterness I looked for you so long
but I couldn’t find you…
When, when will I die, my dear,
so I can forget you?

I want to see you one more time,
my darling girl,
and to revel in the gaze
of your eyes;
I want to see you one more time
even if you tell me
that it’s all over
and that it’s pointless to stir up
the ashes of our love…

I want to see you one more time…
I am so sad
and I can’t even remember
why you left!
I want to see you one more time
and in my anguish
I will feel a bit of relief
and retreat, forgotten, to my corner
where I will calmly die.

Night that manages to surround
all of my thoughts…
Laments that search for our past
as the wind blows them away…
blood that my heart has spilled
in your name…
Fever that scorches my mind
without erasing your memory…

Quiero verte una vez más (1939)

letra de José María Contursi
música de Mario Canaro

Tarde que me invita a conversar
con los recuerdos,
pena de esperarte y de llorar
en este encierro…
Tanto en mi amargura te busqué
sin encontrarte…
¿Cuándo, cuándo, vida, moriré
para olvidarte?

Quiero verte una vez más,
amada mía,
y extasiarme en el mirar
de tus pupilas;
quiero verte una vez más
aunque me digas
que ya todo terminó
y es inútil remover
las cenizas de un amor…

Quiero verte una vez más…
¡Estoy tan triste
y no puedo recordar
por qué te fuiste!

Quiero verte una vez más
y en mi agonía
un alivio sentiré
y olvidado en mi rincón
más tranquilo moriré.

Noche que consigues envolver
mis pensamientos…
Quejas que buscando nuestro ayer
las lleva el viento…
Sangre que ha vertido el corazón
al evocarte…
Fiebre que me abrasa la razón
sin olvidarte….
