Es en vano llorar (1943)

It’s No Use Crying (1943)
Music by Alberto Suárez Villanueva

Lyrics by Oscar Rubens

I know that you go wandering in the clubs
with your soul torn to shreds,
and that look in your eyes gives away

the bitterness in your heart.

Defeated, you’re sprawled out across the tables
crying over the one who left you last night
and while you cry over being jilted,
someone else is pining for your love.

It’s no use crying
crying over that love
that only brought you bitterness.

Better to forget her
by being near the warmth
of someone more pure and good.

Haven’t you maybe seen in her eyes

gleaming with longing
the desire to feel that she’s yours?

It’s no use crying,
crying over that love

while the sun still shines for you.

I know that you go wandering in the clubs

throwing your life away

and that with a poisoned conscience
you’re getting bitter, suffering for her love.

Stop crying over a bad seed [1]
when someone else is offering you her heart:

that good and pretty girl

who is breathless for your love…

Orquesta Miguel Caló, singer Raúl Iriarte (1943)

Iriarte does not sing the lyrics in italics.
[1] Literally, “over weeds.” The “yerba mala” here is the woman who jilted the singer’s friend, contrasted with the one who has an unrequited love for him.

esa muchachita linda y buena
que suspira por tu amor…
