El día que me quieras (1935)

The Day That You Love Me

music by Carlos Gardel
lyrics by Alfredo Le Pera

The soft murmur of your breath
caresses my dreams…
How life will laugh with joy

if your dark eyes want to look at me!
And if I can call the song-like refuge

of your soft laughter “mine,”
it will ease the pain of my wounds,
I’ll forget everything else!

The day that you love me

the embellishing rose
will dress to the nines
in its most vibrant colors.
The bells will tell the wind
that you are mine at last,
and the delirious springs
will tell me about your love.

The night that you love me,
from the blue of the sky
the jealous stars
will watch us walk together
and a mysterious ray of light
will nest in your hair,
like a curious firefly
and it will see…that you are my solace!

The day that you love me
there will be nothing but harmonies,
the sunrise will be bright
and the springs will be joyous.
The breeze will bring the calm
rumor of a melody

and the fountains will sing to us

their crystalline song.

The day that you love me

the songbirds will all
sweeten their chords,
Life will burst into bloom,

sorrow will exist no more…

The night that you love me,
from the blue of the sky
the jealous stars
will watch us walk together
and a mysterious ray of light
will nest in your hair,
like a curious firefly
and it will see…that you are my solace!

El día que me quieras

Acaricia mi ensueño

el suave murmullo de tu suspirar,
¡
como ríe la vida

si tus ojos negros me quieren mirar!

me contarán tu amor.

La noche que me quieras

desde el azul del cielo,

las estrellas celosas

nos mirarán pasar

y un rayo misterioso

hará nido en tu pelo,

luciérnaga curiosa

que verá…¡que eres mi consuelo..!

El día que me quieras

no habrá más que armonías,

será clara la aurora

y alegre el manantial.

Traerá quieta la brisa

rumor de melodías

y nos darán las fuentes

su canto de cristal.

El día que me quieras

endulzará sus cuerdas

el pájaro cantor,

florecerá la vida,

no existirá el dolor…

La noche que me quieras

desde el azul del cielo,

las estrellas celosas

nos mirarán pasar

y un rayo misterioso

hará nido en tu pelo,

luciérnaga curiosa

que verá… ¡que eres mi consuelo!
