Como aquella princesa (1937)

lyrics by José María Contursi
music by Joaquin Mora

There is a fading star
near the light of your gaze…
Your anguish pains me…it’s because I love you so
that I get sad when I see you so dour, my darling!
Beneath the heaven of fleeting fantasies
drawn in dark circles beneath your eyes
I have seen my life destroyed
by my love’s foolish jealousy!

Like that princess in the storybooks
You appeared one day, radiant and shining…
I was the timid squire at a court of dreams
whose God was poetry…whose dream was you.
Like that timid squire in the storybooks
one evening I tremulously confessed my love to you….
your eyes misted over…a sigh and a kiss…
and this sweet pain that unites the two of us!

There is a suffering star
near the dreams in your eyes…
You are in love…your gaze says so
and my soul is consumed by this doubt.
But my faith calms
because your breath caresses me…
your hands in my hands…my lips on your lips…
and a silent prayer in my mind!

Orquesta Osvaldo Fresedo, singer Roberto Ray (1937)

Como aquella princesa
letra de José Maria Contursi

música de Joaquin Mora

Hay una estrella desmayada

junto a la luz de tu mirada…

Me aflige tu quebranto…

he visto reflejada mi vida destrozada
