Landscape
lyrics by Homero Manzi
music by Sebastián Piana
I bought you one afternoon, distant landscape,
with your golden frame and your autumnal theme.
I hung you on the wall across from her portrait,
across from her portrait that’s no longer there.
Perhaps that’s why I was upset just now
by your muted tone, your shadow, your grey,
your sky roofed with clouds and mist,
your park weeping with the April rains. [1]
Who could it be, who could it be
that painted on your canvas
the autumnal quiet of the pine trees?
And that light of oblivion
and the lost horizon
and the wounded blue path
and the loneliness?
Who could it be that once upon a time
found you just as you are
and managed to understand your color?
What soul, what good soul
saw the pain, the pain
of the grey cloud
of the blue path
of the April sorrows?
Orquesta Pedro Laurenz, singer Alberto Podestá

Paisaje
Te compré una tarde, paisaje lejano,
el marco dorado y el tema otoñal.
Te colgué en el muro frente a su retrato,
frente a su retrato que ya no está más.
Es tal vez por eso que recién me angustian
tu tono velado, tu sombra, tu gris,
tu cielo techado de nubes y bruma,
tu parque llorando con lluvia de abril.
¿Quién será, quien será
que en tu tela pintó
la quietud otoñal del pinar?
¿Y esa luz de olvido,
y el confín perdido,
y el camino herido de azul
y la soledad?
¿Quién será que una vez
te encontró como sos
y logró comprender tu color?
¿Qué alma, qué alma buena
vio la pena, pena
de la nube gris
del camino azul
del dolor de abril?
Hi, just a very good blog! I’m writing from Italy, in order to exchange our blog links.
In our blog, we have a translation service on demand, from Castellano to Italian, and maybe we can sponsor each other.
Un abrazo from Controtango

You have made this vals come alive for me.
The new film “Homero Manzi: un poeta en la tormenta” opens this week in Buenos Aires.
Wow, the Manzi film sounds very intriguing–is it a documentary, or a biopic?
There is a commentary about the film on http://www.10tango.com and you can see the trailer here http://cine.argentina.ar/peliculas/8940-Homero-Manzi-un-poeta-en-la-tormenta-F/ Manzi’s son Acho is one of the producers.
I have become an admirer of Laurenz an Podesta this classic vals is one of my favorites! I love the artful lyrics who doesn’t enjoy a good landscape!
Por que no:)
