Remembranza (1934)

Remembrance
lyrics by Mario Battistella
music by Mario Melfi

Every week feels so long
when you are not close to me!
I don’t know what superhuman powers
give my life meaning, so far from you.

Now that the light of my hope is dead,
I am like a shipwreck at sea.
I know that I am lost beyond the horizon,
but I just can’t accept that…

Oh…how sad it is to recall
after so much love
the joy that is gone now…
the flower of dreams,
our passion, has wilted…
Oh…forget all my scorn!
Come back, sweet one,
to our love
and once again
our desire will blossom
like that flower…

Orquesta Ricardo Malerba, singer Orlando Medina

Orquesta Osvaldo Pugliese, singer Jorge Maciel

(Spanish original after the jump)

Remembranza

¡Cómo son largas las semanas
cuando no estás cerca de mí!
No sé qué fuerzas sobrehumanas
me dan valor lejos de ti.

Muerta la luz de mi esperanza,
soy como un náufrago en el mar.
Sé que me pierdo en lontananza
mas no me puedo resignar…

Ay…que triste es recordar
después de tanto amar,
esa dicha que pasó…
flor de una ilusión,
nuestra pasión se marchitó.
Ay, ¡olvida mi desdén!
retorna dulce bien,
a nuestro amor
y volverá a florecer
nuestro querer
como aquella flor…

  1. I love Malerba’s version of this song! It would be great if you could also look at another song by this orchestra called Embrujamiento. A version by d’Arienzo exist too but Malerba make it sound truly enchanting.

Though he no longer has inventory available, Michael Lavocah's superb http://milonga.co.uk/ can help you determine which CDs might be best to buy used.
